Fani Willis, the district attorney for Fulton County in Georgia, has been served with a subpoena in connection to the divorce proceedings of Nathan Wade, a man with whom she is reportedly romantically involved and has appointed as a special prosecutor in the pursuit of former President Donald Trump.
Willis is currently leading a RICO (Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act) case against Trump and several associates, accusing them of election interference. Recent reports have highlighted Willis’s alleged romantic relationship with Wade, raising questions about financial benefits she may have received from the association.
The Wall Street Journal reveals that Willis’s office received a subpoena on Monday, requiring her testimony in the divorce case of Nathan and Joycelyn Wade, who filed for divorce in November 2021.
The subpoena, delivered just hours before Michael Roman, a former Trump campaign official and co-defendant in the RICO case, filed a motion alleging misconduct, claims that Willis and Wade had an improper and clandestine personal relationship. The motion also suggests financial impropriety, asserting that the couple took extravagant vacations funded by money Wade’s firm received from the RICO case.
Records indicate that Wade received over $650,000 in legal fees since the beginning of 2022, requiring authorization from either Willis or Wade. Additionally, Roman’s lawyer, Ashleigh Merchant, contends that Wade’s hiring by Willis was not approved by the Fulton County Board of Commissioners, as is customary.
Roman’s motion seeks the disqualification of Willis, her office, and Wade from the Trump case, citing sources close to both individuals who confirm an ongoing romantic relationship. The legal community appears divided on the potential impact of these allegations on the RICO case, leaving the outcome uncertain.
