Last Tuesday, the Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) used her elbow to shove the daughter of newly elected Rep. Mayra Flores (R-TX) at her ceremonial swearing-in to Congress.
Flores won a shocking victory in Texas less than two weeks ago, flipping a House district held by Democrats for over 100 years. The 84 percent Hispanic district provided another piece of evidence pointing to a historic shift coming in November toward the GOP.
The now-viral video is going rounds on social media and it came to Rep. Flores’ attention and she responded on Sunday.
Video shows Pelosi motioning with her raised right hand for a pastor to come over for a photo. She then looks down at Flores’ daughter standing next to her, and Pelosi moves her bent right forearm to the right — apparently contacting the shoulder of Flores’ daughter — as the girl moves to the right at the same time.
Flores wasn’t happy about what the video showed. Here’s what Flores tweeted as a response:
“I am so proud of my strong, beautiful daughter for not allowing this to faze her. She continued to smile and pose for the picture like a Queen. No child should be pushed to the side for a photo op. PERIOD!!”

Actor James Woods also shared the video along with his own comment, tweeting, “I love this princess stood her ground, while Nancy showed her true colors.”

The Daily Wire noted:
When Flores won her special election, she became the first Mexican-born American woman to serve in Congress — and because she was only elected to fill the last few months of Vela’s current term, she will have to remain on campaign footing and defend her recently-won seat in November’s midterm elections.
But Flores has already made waves — comedian Bill Maher cited her race on Friday as proof that Democrats were losing ground with demographics where they had previously done well.
Here’s what Bill Maher explained:
“The campaign manager for the losing Democrat said, ‘We gave up a reliably Democratic Congressional seat for no reason at all. We deserve to know why.’ Well, aside from your terrible attitude, I’m going to tell you why. Because these voters stopped seeing your candidate as their lawyer. That’s why. Their message to you was, ‘I’m an American now. I’m here. Be my lawyer, not the lawyer for the migrants showing up in my backyard.’”
I’ve watched the video a few times, and I’m not really coming up with an explanation for Pelosi’s behavior that doesn’t make her look bad.
Did she not want Flores’ daughter to touch her? If not, why not? I can honestly say that I’ve never found the need to shove a kid who stood too close to me during a picture. Maybe Pelosi is secretly a germaphobe?
Or maybe Pelosi just doesn’t like kids? That wouldn’t be shocking given her support for abortion until birth, a position she’s reiterated lately following the overturning of Roe v. Wade. She’s devoutly Catholic, though. I’m assured of it.
