A political action committee found itself at the receiving end of a legal showdown, accused of exploiting the reputation of a high-profile figure for a fraudulent presidential bid.
Legal counsel for the former Fox News host, Tucker Carlson, have issued a stern warning to a political action committee (PAC) that was allegedly aiming to co-opt him into the presidential race. The tactics used by this group clearly expose the underhanded strategies that are becoming all too common in political maneuvers.
The cease-and-desist letter was made public on Tuesday by Carlson’s attorney, Harmeet Dhillon. The correspondence obtained by Mediaite reveals the underhand efforts by the PAC to rally funds, supposedly to convince Carlson to vie for the 2024 presidency.
“It has come to Mr. Carlson’s attention that you are soliciting contributions and donor contact information from the public by representing that the funds will be used to draft Mr. Tucker to run for President in 2024,” Dhillon wrote.
Dhillon’s letter highlights the PAC’s strategy of attempting to rally donations and amass contact information from unsuspecting supporters by promising them that their contributions would go towards Carlson’s presidential bid. Such tactics can only be seen as a deep-seated attempt to exploit the trust of those who revere Carlson.
“Mr. Carlson will not run for President in 2024 under any circumstances, and therefore your misrepresentations are damaging to Mr. Carlson and defrauding his supporters,” she continued. “If you do not immediately cease and desist your efforts to solicit money to ‘draft’ Mr. Carlson, we will use every legal means at our disposal to vindicate his rights and protect his supporters from these misrepresentations.”
In no uncertain terms, Dhillon made it clear that Carlson has absolutely no intentions of running for presidency in 2024. She emphasized that the PAC’s falsehoods are causing harm to Carlson’s reputation and defrauding his loyal followers. She warned that if these deceptive solicitations were not immediately ceased, they would employ all legal resources available to protect Carlson and his supporters from such deceptive practices.
The ‘Draft Tucker PAC’ was suspiciously set up following Carlson’s departure from Fox News on April 24th, as per FEC records. Those pulling the strings behind this devious operation include Executive Director Charlie Kolean, a Dallas-based GOP consultant, and Treasurer Elizabeth Curtis.
The option of legal action remains on the table, stated Dhillon, if the cunning tactics of Kolean and Curtis continue unabated, compromising the integrity of fundraising initiatives.
Dhillon’s letter wrapped up with a stern reminder to the PAC, emphasizing Carlson’s refusal to let his followers be tricked into supporting a cause he neither endorses nor has any chance of achieving. The underhanded way the PAC is likely to use the funds for undisclosed purposes was highlighted as well.
If the ‘Draft Tucker’ efforts persist, Dhillon assured that they will exhaust every legal avenue to prevent the misuse of Carlson’s name, image, and likeness, thereby safeguarding his supporters from fraudulent activities.
