In the early hours of Thursday, a 59-year-old subway conductor in New York City was attacked by being slashed in the neck.
The incident occurred at the Rockaway Avenue and Fulton Street station in Brooklyn on a southbound A train around 3:40 a.m., according to authorities.
The victim, named Alton Scott, was on board the train as it arrived at the station when he was targeted and injured as he leaned out of the window.
Video footage shows numerous police officers at the scene, and the Pix 11 report noted that “crime has continued to be an ongoing problem”:
The victim was taken to a nearby hospital and reported to be in stable condition. He underwent a procedure requiring 34 stitches before being discharged to return home.
Despite ongoing investigations, no arrests have been made thus far. Authorities mentioned that a man wearing a blue vest was seen fleeing the scene following the attack.
TWU Local 100 Union President Richard Davis expressed his concerns about the escalating criminal incidents affecting numerous individuals in the vicinity.
He emphasized the urgent need for improved security measures to prevent more severe incidents from occurring among workers.
“I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: statistics mean nothing until the violence stops,” he continued:
This is attempted murder. The wound on Mr. Scott’s neck is too close to his carotid artery. We’re at a breaking point where we can’t do our jobs safely. The city is in crisis, and the target is on our backs.
Janno Lieber’s MTA police force of 1000 officers must be immediately deployed to the metro NYC area. We’re facing heinous crimes and brutal assaults. Enough is enough.
The Pix 11 report highlighted the addition of 1,000 police officers to the city’s transit system to address rising violence. According to a February 13 report by Breitbart News, six people were shot, with one fatality occurring recently at a Bronx subway station.
“The Bronx, like all of New York City (and the state of New York) has some of the most stringent gun controls in the country,” the outlet noted.
Additionally, New York City police have initiated a search for a woman who is accused of randomly assaulting a cellist performing at a Midtown subway station, as reported by Breitbart News on February 16. The incident was captured on video footage: Breitbart News also reported on February 13 that at least six individuals were shot at a Bronx subway station, with one of them recently succumbing to their injuries.
