Parents Are Outraged After Video Of Principal Spanking A Student

A principal of a Florida elementary school faces criminal charges after she spanked a crying six-year-old girl with a paddle while her confused mother watched. The little girl was accused of causing about $50 worth of damage to the school’s computers, and her mother arrived at Central Elementary in Clewiston, FL, to pay the expense. However, Principal Melissa Carter (pictured below) wanted to make sure the little girl never broke a school computer again, so she took out the paddle and started beating the little girl.

The little girl and her mother have not been named. Nevertheless, the mom witnessed the principal abusing her daughter. She was in the principal’s office during the spanking because she had been called to the school to repay the damages from the child’s accident.

The mother did not speak fluent English and was confused by the charges against her daughter. When she arrived at the school, she tried to learn more about why she needed to reimburse the school $50 for the damaged computer equipment. However, mom claims that after she went into the principal’s office, she was surprised when Principal Carter took out the wooden paddle and started spanking the child.

Mom recorded a video of the attack, which showed the little girl crying as the principal beat her. She was afraid to stand up for her daughter because she did not want any authorities looking into her immigration status.

Although Florida is among the nineteen states that allow educators to administer corporal punishment, the practice was banned at Central Elementary because beating children as punishment is a practice not condoned by the Hendry County School District. They banned at-school beatings and expected educators to follow the rules.

“Nobody would have believed me,” mom told WINK News. She was tearful as she spoke to the media. “I sacrificed my daughter, so all parents can realize what’s happening in this school.”

When mom first spoke to someone about her daughter’s problem, the person told her that she could be paddled so long as there was a deputy present for the spanking. However, the mom did not understand what the school administrator meant due to language issues.

Mom was rushed into the principal’s office as soon as she arrived at the school. The principal started spanking her daughter with the wooden paddle even though there was no deputy present for the attack.

“My daughter was already in the office. The principal started to scream. There were no cameras. What are we doing in this place? My daughter and I, alone.”

Mom added, “The hatred with which she hit my daughter, I mean it was a hatred that, really I’ve never hit my daughter as she hit her. I had never hit her.”

Mom took her daughter to the doctor, who documented bruises and red marks made by the paddle. Now, the mom is concerned that her daughter may be stuck with psychological damage from the abuse.

The states that allow corporal punishment are Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Wyoming.
