Recently, a peculiar phenomenon has emerged globally, in which affluent women are shelling out thousands of dollars to venture deep into the wilderness and unleash primal screams resembling those of hyenas while vigorously breaking sticks.

According to USA Today, these gatherings, referred to as “rage rituals,” have gained traction on social media platforms such as TikTok.

Participants assert that witnessing other women express their anger serves as an inspiration for them.

Mia Banducci, an author and self-proclaimed “Spiritual Fairy Godmother,” is among the individuals orchestrating these retreats.

She informed the publication this month that the retreats aid in releasing negative emotions and promoting greater happiness in other aspects of participants’ lives.

“When people do this and give themselves permission to release their anger, their capacity for joy actually expands,” she said. “They’re able to feel more happiness and pleasure, and they go home to their families with more gratitude and ease and peace.”

Banducci has been guiding rage rituals for many years, initially for her own benefit before extending the practice to the public. Participants can expect to pay between $2,000 and $4,000 for these retreats, with a one-day option available at $222 per ticket.

The rage ritual process is straightforward. According to Banducci, participants begin by grabbing large sticks and focusing on individuals who have wronged, hurt, or taken advantage of them.

After taking warm-up breaths, they proceed to scream and swing the sticks for at least 20 minutes or until their arms become tired. Banducci claims the ritual takes place in the woods to avoid disturbing nearby people with the screaming.

During her first rage ritual in Scotland with Banducci two and a half years ago, cybersecurity engineer Kimberly Helmus experienced unexpected emotions.

She initially anticipated addressing her anger toward her ex-husband following their divorce but instead felt a deep sadness that had been suppressed since witnessing a friend’s death at 15 years old.

“I remember it was a very clear, light-switch moment where I was like, ‘Oh, that’s what this is about,’” she explained. “So many times, I think you can’t really feel a lot of stuff until you work through it.”

USA Today highlights that although Banducci is a prominent figure leading these unconventional rituals, she is not the only one.

Secret Sanctuary, for instance, plans to organize a “Sacred Rage Ceremony” in Alberta, Canada in July.

Furthermore, author and self-proclaimed mystic Jessica Ricchetti is set to conduct a “Sacred Rage” women’s retreat in North Carolina in June.
