The mother of a Las Vegas man who was charged in the death of his one-year-old daughter, who died in a locked Nissan Altima on Monday night, has spoken out to say her son was not negligent.
Sidney Deal, 27, reportedly accidentally locked his 21-month-old daughter inside his car, and then allegedly refused help from both police officers and his brother to free her.
For more than an hour, the toddler remained alone inside the vehicle, as temperatures soared outside, and Deal fretted over the high cost of repairing the window if it was broken or paying a tow truck driver for help. In the process, his daughter died. But now, friends and family are speaking out in Deal’s defense, insisting he didn’t behave negligently.

However, the delay proved deadly. By the time officers acted to rescue the baby – breaking a window in the car and removing baby Syrah from the hot vehicle – the child was unresponsive. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The cause of death for the baby has yet to be officially determined. However, police have reason to believe that the little girl had been accidentally locked in the hot car for over an hour. The sun was beating down on Las Vegas particularly hard that day and was very dangerous for the little girl.

Deal’s girlfriend called the insurance company, but he told her to hang up because he didn’t agree with the price they quoted for a tow truck.
He was booked into the Clark County Detention Center, charged with one count of child abuse or neglect causing substantial bodily harm. He was held on a $20,000 bond.
