Fox News reports that FBI Director Kash Patel said fugitive Manjit Singh Bedi, listed among the FBI’s “Most Wanted Fraudsters,” has been returned to the United States after being arrested in India in September.

What officials allege

According to federal officials cited by Fox News, Bedi is accused of defrauding the U.S. government of at least $600,000 through a Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) scheme while operating an Asian grocery store in Tacoma, Washington, from March 2024 to June 2025.

The FBI said Bedi allegedly swiped SNAP recipients’ Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) cards, gave cash instead of eligible food purchases, and kept roughly half the benefits.

Flight and return

Fox News reports that after being indicted, Bedi allegedly drove to Canada before fleeing to India. A federal arrest warrant charging him with violating the conditions of his release was issued on May 21, 2026.

Patel posted on X: “BACK IN THE U.S. – Manjit Singh Bedi, one of the FBI’s Most Wanted Fraudsters, arrested in September in India,” according to Fox News.
