A case of deceit that may lead to the courtroom has set social media ablaze after a Spanish TikTok celebrity admitted to tricking women into unprotected sex, igniting calls for justice and potential legal repercussions that could redefine the boundaries of consent.
If convicted, 19-year-old Naim Darrechi could face up to twelve years in jail for these serious offenses.
The young social media star, Darrechi, catapulted to infamy following his shocking revelation on a TikTok video where he unabashedly confessed to habitually duping women into having unprotected sex with him. Claiming to be sterile, Darrechi took advantage of their trust and recklessly risked their health. Spain’s Equalities Minister, in a bid to eradicate such harmful predators, has urged prosecutors to meticulously investigate the truth behind Darrechi’s claims.
Boasting the most significant TikTok following in Spain, with about 26.8 million followers, Darrechi often engages his audience with videos shot at home. In a scandalous YouTube video interview, he went a step further to disclose how he sexually deceived several women. His method involved lying about his sterility, thereby persuading them to consent to unprotected sex.
The revelation of Darrechi’s sinister scheme sparked widespread anger among women. Minister Irene Montero and others highlighted that his actions unequivocally fall under sexual abuse as per the current Spanish laws. Prosecutors are now tasked with pressing charges of sexual assault against Darrechi, seeking justice for the women and girls he traumatized.
Minister Montero took to Twitter to voice her perspective on the matter, stating, “Taking off a condom or ejaculating inside someone without consent is now sexual abuse, and the #OnlyYesisYes law will recognize it as assault. Bragging to 26 million followers about something like this reflects the urgency of centering consent. We will inform the prosecutor’s office.”
In the wake of the ensuing backlash, Darrechi issued an apology on Instagram for his inflammatory comments about sexually deceiving women, stating, “I’m really sorry… it’s just crazy what I said.” However, his apology seemed more focused on his regret about the remarks not being edited out of the video rather than remorse for the trauma he caused the women.
Darrechi continued, “I want to apologize, really. Sometimes I don’t realize the responsibility that is mine… I made a comment that really is out of place, and that is not right. Sometimes I say things, and sometimes I exaggerate, but here it’s just crazy what I said, I wish it had been cut at the edit, and no one would ever have heard it.”
Darrechi’s admission that he lied about his sterility to trick women into unprotected sex has serious legal implications.
“I started thinking that I had a problem,” he confessed in the contentious YouTube video, adding, “So I tell them: ‘relax, I’m sterile.’ It’s true.”
A new bill slated for debate in the Spanish Parliament in September seeks to categorize all non-consensual sex as rape. This law’s passing could potentially turn Darrechi, given his dishonesty, into an infamous symbol of the very problem the legislation aims to rectify.
