Judicial Watch Sues to Get 911 Call, Arrest Report of Laken Riley’s Murder

Judicial Watch, a watchdog group, is taking legal action to obtain the 911 call and arrest reports related to the murder of 22-year-old Laken Riley in Athens, Georgia.

The lawsuit, filed under the Georgia Open Records Act by Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton, targets the University of Georgia (UGA) Police Department.

The aim is to release the 911 call made by Riley during the incident involving Jose Antonio Ibarra, an illegal alien from Venezuela who has been charged with her murder.

Additionally, the lawsuit seeks to disclose the UGA Police Department’s initial arrest and incident reports concerning Ibarra.

“There are many political forces that wish to suppress the truth about what happened to Laken Riley, but Judicial Watch will insist on transparency under the law for the public interest and public safety,” Fitton said in a statement.

Nursing student Laken Riley was tragically found murdered in a wooded area on the UGA campus on Feb. 22, after going for a morning run.

The following day, Ibarra, an illegal alien who had been released into the United States from the southern border, was arrested and charged with her killing.

Several months prior to Riley’s death, Ibarra had been cited for shoplifting in Athens and had a bench warrant issued for not appearing in court regarding those charges.

Despite this legal issue, Ibarra was not handed over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) authorities.

In August 2023, Ibarra was arrested in New York City for endangering a child in an act of violence. However, because New York City is a sanctuary city, before ICE could issue a detainer for Ibarra, he was released from custody.

Currently, Ibarra is being held without bail at Clarke County Jail.
