It was an unforgettable day when Australian actress Rebel Wilson, who has gained fame in American media, found herself banned from Disneyland. The 43-year-old star had planned to propose to her girlfriend, Ramona Agrum, at the magical theme park in Anaheim, California, just outside of Los Angeles. However, her romantic gesture went awry when she snapped a photo inside a “secret bathroom,” resulting in her expulsion from the Happiest Place on Earth.
Rebel had reached out to Disney CEO Bob Iger, who kindly granted her permission to pop the question at the famous theme park. But despite the CEO’s green light, she failed to adhere to park rules, which led to her ban from Disneyland for a considerable period.
During an interview with The Daily Show, Rebel confirmed her banishment, explaining that it was due to taking pictures inside an off-limits secret bathroom.
She recounted, “I did get banned from Disneyland for 30 days because I took a photo inside a secret bathroom, which is illegal, at Disneyland.”
Disney executives, however, showed leniency towards the popular actress. They accommodated her schedule by adjusting the dates of her ban to ensure she could still visit the park when convenient.
Rebel shared her experience: “I got officially banned for 30 days. They called me up and said, ‘Rebel, what 30 days did you not want to come to Disneyland because you’re away filming a movie or something?’ And I was like, ‘Oh, well, June would be fine.'”
Rebel also dished out some surprising information about Disneyland during the interview. She claimed that the family-friendly park was plagued by “gangs of adults” who roamed around wearing matching vests, attempting to relive their childhoods.
“They wear matching vests and walk around and do gang stuff around Disneyland,” she revealed. “One of the initiations was you had to steal the apple from the Snow White ride, and the apple kept getting stolen so many times they had to make it a hologram. But don’t ask me how I know about Disneyland gangs because I will not say.”
After her successful proposal to Ramona, Rebel expressed her gratitude to Bob Iger, the Disney CEO, in an Instagram post. She later described the magical experience on The Drew Barrymore Show:
“He’s the big, big boss, and I thought, ‘Well, if he says yes, then it was meant to be, and I was meant to propose that day at Disneyland, (which is) the most magical proposal place on Earth.'”
Rebel went on to describe the elaborate setup she had arranged for the special moment:
“I had to get special permission to get a special area roped off and get the topiary trees in, and, you know, I had a violinist playing like Disney classics, and it was very, really romantic.”
In the end, Rebel Wilson’s Disneyland proposal turned out to be a memorable affair, even with the unexpected ban. The story serves as a testament to the power of love, the consequences of rule-breaking, and the secret world of Disneyland.
