An unconventional love story unfolds as a Mississippi couple with a 61-year age gap embarks on a journey to start a family through IVF treatment.

A 61-year age gap doesn’t deter this Mississippi couple from pursuing their dream of starting a family through IVF treatment. Miracle Pogue, the 24-year-old bride, encountered her future 85-year-old husband, Charles Pogue, at a laundromat in 2019.

Their unlikely friendship quickly blossomed into a passionate romance, and with Charles having no children of his own, they began exploring IVF options for Miracle to bear his first child.

Charles, a retired real estate agent, proposed to Miracle in February 2020 after more than a year of friendship. As the world faced the pandemic, Miracle’s family warmed up to the idea of their union.

Her mother, 45-year-old Tamika Phillips, and 72-year-old grandfather Joe Brown were particularly supportive. However, convincing her father, 47-year-old Kareem Phillips, proved more challenging.

Recounting their initial meeting, Miracle said:

“Charles used to bring in one item of clothing and only wanted me to serve him. One day, he waltzed in there and threw a piece of paper down and said ‘write down your number’ like he’s a player. He was my knight in shining armor.”

Despite their age difference, Miracle and Charles connected effortlessly.

“He didn’t make me feel weird. It was a good conversation. He made me feel comfortable. I knew he was older, but I didn’t know his age exactly. When I found out I was in too deep, it was a couple of months in, and I already had feelings for him. He was my baby, and he wasn’t going anywhere,” she explained.

Miracle’s grandfather’s support was crucial, but her father’s approval took more effort.

“It took a lot of time to convince him, but I asked him if he wanted to lose his daughter forever. If he didn’t come to my wedding, he would have lost me forever. I told him I needed his support and to walk me down the aisle. Once he got to meet Charles and talk to him, he loved him,” she said.

Charles, undaunted by the age gap, praised his wife:

“Miracle has got a lot going for her. She’s got her life in order. She’s great. The wedding day was wonderful. It was the best day of my life. There’s no problem with the age difference.”
