Two schoolgirls were saved from an alleged attempted abduction after one of them mouthed a secret message for help to a stranger.
In a report by Fox13, the anonymous woman was standing outside a church on Sunday when she saw a man following two young girls on a bike. After speaking with the man, the woman realized something was wrong and that he was lying.
“I saw two children on their bicycles and a male adult behind them,” the woman said “One of the little girls was mouthing to me, ‘Please help me, this is not my dad. He was kind of talking over her, right behind her, putting his arm around her neck and saying something in her ear, saying, ‘We just moved here, we just want to see how we can help do whatever you’re doing.’ I engaged in conversation with him. I said, ‘Oh that’s nice, where did you move here from?’ He said, ‘Oh, I am not really sure.’”
The woman invited them all into the Church until she had a chance to call the police.
Hillsborough County authorities arrested David Daniels, 37, on accusations of wrongful confinement of a child and child abuse, according to FOX13. After the 9-1-1 call, he was discovered walking back downtown.
Around 6:00 p.m., police said Daniels began following the girls from a local restaurant, offering to “supervise” them, according to the report. He then proceeded to strike one of the girls in the head before leading them to the Church, according to the complaint. The two little girls informed authorities they thought they were being kidnapped.
The KIRO7 reports that Daniels was arrested by the Foley Police Department in Alabama just days before the incident for allegedly trespassing into a property. On a $104,000 bond, he is currently being held at the Hillsborough County Jail.
